Cooking together at my cottage with my good friend Barry, we suddenly found ourselves acting out a live cooking show with a non-existent audience. I had assumed the chef role, while Barry was the self-proclaimed sous-chef (and Karen in the wings, the director/producer). We needed a name, and in stroke of creative genius to which I have come to admire about my friend, Barry appointed me The Hefty Gourmet, and a star was born (known only to a few).
